yes they are doing it on mot time as well as testing the trailer light sockets work ok this due to the fact that the tow bar and fixings are now part of mot checks. the new ecu tests are due to the theory that increased power=overworked brakes and also having it remapped = modified vechile an may be not declared to to insurance companys....... [get out clause if you need to make a claim]! me think eu stinks.

They have always tested trailer sockets on towbars in Northern Ireland, this is because there is only testing stations here you can't mot at a local garage.

I would like to see the proof of this, how ever on earth would they test it as torque tronix remap doesn't show on a dealers software.

That sounds to me like pub talk but I would like to be proved different.

I have my Audi A4 done and it makes a great difference. Had a quick look on the net and can't find no official change to the law regarding remapping and MOTS.

Had my previous 2005 A4 1.9 130BHP sport done and he mapped it to 164BHP, now i have a 170BHP s line and it is upped to 205BHP both where avants not that that makes any difference. Those VAG engines really improve with a map especially the torque that's what we are all after.

When they are remapped they will pull from under 2000RPM in any gear that's what you are looking for BHP figures isn't the be all and end. 256 pound foot of torque and increased by 75 when chipped. Thats the 170BHP will look out my paperwork for my previous car and see what the torque figures are.

Get it remapped, get addicted to the acceleration, get the points, be warned it's just to easy.

Hi Ian,

I though about doing this to mine when I first got her, but never got round to it.

How do you find the gear ratio's with the extra grunt?Because I find mine's screaming

now at 55/60mph and would only benefit me if I change the gear box ratio so I can just cruiz at 55 instead.

It'll be interesting to see how you get on!

Cheers Steve

1st thing i noticed was that no more screaming. Took a good load of wood chip today and was impressed with it. On sat i should have the chipper and chip mix so it will be good to judge that then.

The edu thing? Went to 3 separate places one of which does edu mapping only and the other two were garages. I asked if there was anything naughty about doing this and all three told me your not modifying the truck just setting the correct engine management to your requirement. So put it this way the only difference between a 90,115,125 is the software! Same brake systems etc so if that was the case i guess we would all be driving 90's. If theres no info on the net about it (just spent a couple of minutes looking) them i think it might not be right.

As far as I know there has been a suggestion that a test for "illegal remaps" should be introduced to the MOT, but no-one knows how to do this. Also there is the little matter of what constitutes an illegal remap, since remapping is not per se illegal.

If a remap causes a vehicle to exceed pollution or noise limits, then it is probably illegal, but in this case it woudl fail the current MOT.

It could be argued that since the original map was part of the vehicle during type approval, then any remap invalidates that type approval, but this is unlikely to be succeed as an argument since the manufacturer regularly changes the ECU software and mapping data without resubmitting a vehicle for type approval testing.

Bottom line, this is probably another hare-brained Euroscheme which is both unnecessary and unenforceable. The rest of Europe will either laugh or ignore it completely, the UK will spend a fortune of OUR money trying to implement and enforce it.

That sounds good to me mate vie only got the 130 and to be fair feels pretty quick but you can always have more haha do you reckon it affects the life of the engine or not?

Keep with regular servicing and there won't be any problems and always make sure you use good spec oil.

As Nige said earlier in the thread, Im looking into getting mine done.

Ive managed to find a specialist quite close to us quoting £350 inc vat for a 25 HP & 40 NM of torque map.

Very tempted as the guy says 20% increase in fuel economy is possible too(depending on driving conditions), but will see how it tows 2 tons of chipper & fully loaded first.

Just curious, but you guys mentioned a EGR blank, and a de cat pipe. Will these mods run ok with the remap, and if so, should they be done prior to the remap or will it not matter?
