Just a thought Stevie, as she's an old girl how about clasic insurance. I have seen a clasic tractor mag in the newsagent, why not grab a copy and see who advertises.

I think the crack with the NFU is just ringing different branches until you get one that will do a quote, then ring a few more until you get a quote you like!

My U1000 insured through trust, 350 a year. NFU local office had insured the vehicle for previous owner but would only insure me if I took out public liability with them. However they've got a height limit, so not much good for tree work. I did insure a lorry with them before on vintage insurance, was only about 80 quid a year. Good luck

Agricultural tractor insurance:

Just remember if you just do domestic/LA/etc arb work then that is contracting, as is forestry unless you are harvesting trees that belong to you, there for your percentage of turn-over derived from contracting is high when calculating premiums, but if you fail to include the appropriate percentage of turn-over derived from contracting you run the risk of the NFU or other insurers asking to see your accounts and refusing to pay out if you don’t.

 

The contracting percent has quite a big affect on premiums.

A very good and valid point better pay a higher premium and be covered for what you do than run the risk of not being covered when and if you need it

heres my advice with the NFU having had the similar problems, ring round all the local offices until you find one who will do it, they vary from one to the next, and dont seem to have any coherant policy on it, also if the make it on a special vehicle policy make sure your covered for activities such as towing timber in a trailer on the back, as they can get pretty touchy about that if its not on an ag policy

I have a silver birch, conny and pop in my garden, they are trees, I will fell them now to save £300

the time it will take me to call round all these diferent folk I could of made the money, usual story. They insured my last Mog for 6 years on Ag, glad I didn't have to claim.

do you do any work for farmers? That counts as agricultural contracting and will get you the ag insurance.
