Interesting thread... I know an awful lot of people who work in this style. Not my cuppa tea but it works, gets the job done. Please don't try and tell everyone this is the best way of working though! Anything you can do to reduce the risk of injury to yourself, others on site and people property has to be a good thing. Most of these things can be implemented and with a bit of practice also increase your levels of productivity, so whats to lose?!?

I can't say I'd be using these videos to advertise myself to either the public or other arbs. There are some seriously good riggers/cut and chuck merchants out there and I suspect you'd feel very much put in your place after and day on site with them. I hasten to add I'm all long way off being a good climber yet but I know that and just happen to be lucky enough to work with some of the good guys :)

No buddy I never mention my way of climbing, just defended it :001_smile: my vids show tree felling in a safe way no now can honestly say its not safe because it is. Im sure there are better and worse climbers but what I do works perfectly for me.

opinions on what is good are varied, I should point out these are new vids just simple stuff as I have not had the cam long so I'm getting used to using it and wanted a few vids up, my best stuff will come as and when nice jobs come up.

Not from my rigging or climbing  Of course the standard lift the panel out it falls apart lol, trip over the garden knomes, never a washing line tho but we take them down

I do have a tendency to break cups its quiet embarrassing :laugh1:

My best moment was getting a big tree down a tight spot and on the last cut i cleaned the cut a nice little disc flew off the end of the saw and cracked a tile a proper plum moment.

We've all been there mate, and my latest cup disaster was last week!

With you on the tears fellas, they defo have their place in certain situations.

Keep the vids coming, so what if we don't all agree?

The lively debate on this thread is all good stuff!

Are rip or tear cuts taught on any of the NPTC's? I've never heard of them, just curious?

Cheers guys, it was quite a few years ago I did mine, thought there may have been an inclusion since seeing as they appear quite popular. I think maybe I've never needed to use one hence the unfamiliarity. Surely you would only use it on dismantles, goes without saying???

I think spear cuts and rip cuts are up there with the most useful cuts!

Oh yeah I love a spear cut when there's a clear drop zone, it's kind of the polar opposite of a rip cut though I guess. The only issue I can think of with the rip cut when reducing etc is its hard to judge just how far it will 'rip'. This means there's an element of uncertainty, just a thought.
