i think you are refering to a Concentric cable , these are fairly safe to work around as they are classed as twin screened cable - please see attachment.

as much as this cable is pretty safe to work arround i would still contact your local distribuion office and request a shut down. it may also be possible that the linesmen that do the shud town may also drop the line so that its out of your way completly thus making the job even easyer .

Hope this is of use to you BUT remember if your not sure get it switched off !!

I can't stress this enough. If you have no experience of working around power lines LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!! I've seen people confuse telecom with 230/240v service lines and then confuse service lines with HV. There is no room for mistakes when working with electricity so PLEASE, get it shut off or get someone in who knows what they are doing. There are enough needless deaths in the arb industry without adding to the statistics.

Iv been asked to take a large sycome down and it has a powerline running under it which goes to the house is it safe to work near or would i have to have the electric shut off while we do the tree

Organise a shutdown. Cost a phone call. Any damage to wire min 2000. max death if lucky. Slow fry worse.
