My idea for the tree TO was to fell and replant when he came to look at the trees in the garden he was about 15 meteres from the tree ?????? but never looked at it close up

 

IMO you'd be hard pressed to find P. cerasifera 'Pissardii' without at least one duff union - it's just how they grow and the presence of decay fungi is but one consideration among many in such a decision.

 

If the tree is around for another decade why the rush to replace it?

i totaly agree Tony, but dont dissagree in this case with both parties, they both have valid arguments.

I like the bit round 27-29mins where he kind of goes off on a tangent after a question about dynamic wind loads, basically saying that trees with small reductions where prone to higher wind loads on the stem as they didn't have as many flexible branches absorbing the dynamic forces:biggrin:

Well it gets you thinking doesn't it..? After all , axiom of uniform stress is a pretty widely accepted phenomena. So what actually happens in a reduction?

That would depend on species, site, style and specifications and extent and season of pruning, etc.

it fell over and gre back up (pheonix), looks like a possible old hosepipe kinking at basal area, maybe heart decay by laetiporus sulphureus (a common decay scenario on Prunus avium)
