on the cable and reduction, no point field grown landscape tree, let it be,

 

Assuming that the owner values it in its current shape, and would mind terribly if it started to fall apart, then there is indeed a point to holding it together. Target rating is not just people property and activities. Trees have value, and are the first loss in any tree failure, and must be part of TRA calculations.

As was the cabling prescription. Assuming there is a point to holding the tree together, it would be a candidate for cabling, would it not?

 

the estates huge, financially there are MUCH bigger concerns on the estate I am certain! fair comments though but what is TRA?

How about this group of Sorbus for having a natter together (there where a lot more similar that i didn't take a pic of, all within a 30m2 area)?

Good group of sorbus, IME not very common body language on any tree, especially not such good examples all in proximity. I've noticed it only a few times, on lateral branches not stems. I would bet a certain fungi at work on all affected trees there.

TRA- tree risk assessment/analysis? Maybe...

this is a very explainable phenomina, claus would explain it far better than I but i will attempt it fully tommorow as it will require some reading and effort to do it justice. This is a remarkable example of it though and I reckon Claus would appreciate a copy of the images as they are very special. never seen it in groups.

 

not a fungus at all, basicaly buckling, but its lattice form is due to a very complex and newly described mechanics which im not 100% on as yet so give me a little while:thumbup1:

ive waited years to see such a perfect example of advantigous rooting within a central cavity, could you find that tree again if you went there?

 

Found one the other day on a vet lime, the root was about 2inch thick.

As described in the Updated Field Guide to VTA, "fiber buckling and bulgewood....the cross ribs are bulgewood after 45 degree sliding of the fibres along the shear planes."

 

It may be very explainable in individuals but seems extraordinary in a group.

What kind of stresses create this phenomena?

The beech stem I posted previously is similar. Easier to explain on a bough with the stresses of supporting it than on what seem to be fairly upright trees.

Is it something to do with local wind patterns perhaps?
