So yeah as title say's, i now use a Rope guide for Lowering block. Obivsously not for massive peice as would not be a good use for it or shockloading. but works great for everyday lowering pruning and small removals that sometimes guys can pull back up peices with easy. and then fully retivable from ground. and so quick to setup better than tieing knots i reckon!

just a idea and works well for me, cant see any downsides in it. but i am sure someone can haha.

Cheers MOG

i just install mine on a line then timber hitch it on the base of the tree, as long as its over a fork you are ok, obviously know your limits and consider the bend radius of the rope over the branch or limb.

It is quite easy to make it retrievable on a sling, but most of the time i would rigg off the tree i am dismantling, so i am going back up anyway lol

If it works for you, nice 1

Yes thats to do with reducing the strenght of the rope you are using. craig is on about the forces on the anchor point, before you even worry about rope strength. I thought it was doubled if you tie one rope off at the base of the tree with the riggign line through a puley on the other en dof the rope in the manner you describe, craig says 4x.
