Brushcutter

I have an acre of brambles to get rid of and I want to buy a brushcutter. This isn't my line of business, I'm a sparky, so I don't want to spend a fortune but at the same time I want something fairly heavy duty.

 

I have been looking at the stihl fs90 as it has the solid shaft. What is the husqvarna equivalent. The huskies run on petrol only, is that an advantage over running on 2 stroke?

 

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

the fs90 wouldnt b man enough... try the fs130 or if you have the money an fs400 is the sharpest tool in the box

I have a Kawaski KBH43 (43cc), I much prefer it to similar sized Stihl or Husqvarna models I have used. I'm quite tall, and find that as this one has a longer shaft it's much easier to use, don't know if that would be a factor for you or not.

 

If you want something fairly heavy duty, I'd go for at least 40cc whatever make you choose. And get one of these blades for it, they're perfect for knocking down brambles and mashing it all up!

If you want to get rid of it you need to scrape it off with a digger or put pigs in there. If you strim it it will come back.

Both of the Stihl models are much more expensive than I wanted to spend, the £400 mark was a bit steep for me but don't mind spending it as it's good gear. The Kawasaki is coming in at £500 so is a bit over budget

but the fs90 is no good for anything more than grass, it even struggles with long grass, try get hold of a used fs400 or an fs450

I would say look for a used FS400 it would be far better spending the money on that than a FS90, you will kick yourself buying that smaller machine for brambles

could you get a local farmer it with a flail mower?

 

strimming brambles is not fun!!

Ok, fs90 out the window! Flail mower would be great but the bramble is amongst woodland and you could only really get in with a mini tractor. I realise I have some graft to do and not looking forward to it! So is the general consensus to go with Stihl?

whats your location, as there may be a member on here that can help you out locally

 

The stihl units are pretty robust and if your looking for a used one you should be able to find one easily
