I had bad fuel years ago from BP, had to strip a mixer and flush the tank out just when I was about to lay a floor. There was water in it?

From the same garage there was always water in my pre filter on the van so I stopped using the garage & know since plenty of others had similar problems.

The trouble is you can pass any forecourt now and cars are cuing like they are giving fuel away.

All the supermarkets know this and it they put the price up to 155p per litre now, tomorrow people would still be buying it.

The days of not buying from the most expensive garage has gone, people dont care and just fill up.

When kids walk past 10p on the road and cant be bothered to pick it up because "it's worthless to them" we are on a downward spiral.

If everyone stood up and stopped buying fuel......... in the ideal world I know.

Moan over :-)

We had a bad batch of fuel a week or so ago. Must have been in the bottom of the tank. Looked fine coming out of the pump but when it settled there was about half a litre of sludge in the bottom of the combi can. We took it back to the petrol station and they refunded us. We were then given a voucher to fill up with upto 50 litres of any fuel for free. We took the two 20 l jerry cans and the two combi cans and filled up with the top notch fuel.

Had a similiar problem myself, local garage, does do a fair trade and always a tanker there filling up, so i reckoned it fairly fresh fuel.

Went in with a brand new combi can, filled up, went in and paid, when i came out i put the can in the back of the motor, and thought i saw something in it, upon closer inspection there was about half an egg cupfull of rust, some big flakes as well.

couldnt believe it, went back in and complained, the owner said "no way did it come from here" "we have a state of the art filtration system"

No way was it in the can before hand, and if it was not for the fact it was a clear can i wonder if or when i would have seen it !

Got no where with garage, so what could i do.

Since then i only ever put my fuel in clear cans. usually from a different garage though.

yes sadly this goes on more than we know, I think if we used clear cans we would see more crap in there. The fuel changed every time I fill up and thats only the smell, trouble is they could sell us 50% water and there would still be rows of cars waiting to fill up

I didnt get anywhere when I complained there was water in the fuel, like you said, they come back with it cant be the pump state of the art filters etc.

They got us and we cant do a thing about it (or we just put up with prices for crap, must be the british way eh)

Dear Tomtrees; The Yanks are correct. Curious George and his Hoodlems tryed and failed to increase Ethanol from 10% to 15%. Non-ethanol fuel is hard to secure here in the states and the only reliable source has been boat marinas. It seems that ethanol fuels will destroy boat moters faster than Two/Four cycle engines. Shop at name brand locations only.

Sorry Yanks isnt very politically correct but I read some stuff that came from over your way and the man on the street seems to be well informed.

They add nuts and packing to chocolate because its cheeper than chocolate.

We cant see what they add to fuel so god only knows what is added:001_huh:

There is one brand of fuel that I use all the time.

I use it because I used to test roadfuels for a living (in a former life).

I use it because injection component manufacturers say it is the best (not publicly of course).

Back in the mid 90's, this one brand stuck out as consistently producing the better quality 4-star, unleaded and diesel.

Ten years later my old research professor and I were on the 'phone chatting - "Brand X is still the best Jon" he said. I smiled.

Visited my old Uni 2 weeks ago; they are still fuel testing as part of the vehicle emissions research they do...

This SAME BRAND is still the best for u/l and diesel.

PM me if you really need to know! :sneaky2:

run fuel from any station in ours never had a problem, touch wood!

but i do run at 25:1, as taught by granddad, hes never had a saw seize, more oil is better, imo 100ml of fuel for 5ltr of petrol is wayyyy to little!

I have been told that 100ml to 5l is too low for 88's and 66's. It is true though the only thing adding more 2 stroke will do is extend engine life.
