oak heavy reduction with coronet cuts

Cool. Is that last photo the finished job? Was the work to reduce the size and weight alone or do you hope it will form a new crown lower down?

 

its all coming down to just above the main folks where ian did the coronets on the back side just couldnt risk the platform when the wind picked up more than it already was, so got to be finished off :thumbdown:

Maybe the lower crown will carry on. In my experince, if they aren't throwing out lots of epicormic before hand its more likely to continue to decine. No big deal if it does die, leave the ivy on and its great habitat.

 

Did you try partially cutting the branches to encourage big rips? Good to see more people doing this

Not very oftern tbh never feel 100% safe when doing that, they do look much better but there is a phone line/ broadband line underneath the tree so this was the safest option.
