Hi guys.

I appreciate you guys must get unindated with requests such as these, I'm currently studying arboriculture at college and hope one day to have as much knowledge as you guys. I surveyed several trees on the weekend for an assisgnment, was wondering if you could take a look at the pic and help me out a little.

It looks to me like it has suffered from mechanical damage, the idiot that flies around on the forklift springs to mind...what do you guys think?

I've got plenty more pics if anyone is bored and wants to give their expert opinion to help me out a little...lol

Thanks for taking a look.

Rich.

Ahem, back on track... ;-)

Hard to say for sure just from that pic, but I see something similar a lot on Rosacea, especially Sorbus'.

It's not vehicle damage, it's bark / sapwood necrosis. In this case it may be associated with the decay columb to the right of the pic. In Sorbus it's generally due to Nectria canker and can lead to basal / trunk failure.
