You will be ok,are they going to put a mesh in there?

Couple of weeks & you will be better than new! rest it up after the opp as instructed, once the cut/keyholes have healed get some swimming in to streangthen the muscles.

The doctors are well funny, they will have you in stitches!

Keep an eye on it until the opp,you dont want it strangulating again, but then you probably already know that mate.

Having had two hernias now i feel your pain - although the bad news is it does get worse.....after both ops some very delicate parts swelled up to try and impersinate beach balls.

All good now though, just cant wear trousers with a belt and bend over at same time as it presses on scar tissue from 2nd op. Definetly do the swimming. Oh and laxitives could be your friend for a few days after op,,,,some functions decide to slow down massively.

Yep. Had an inguinal hernia when I was 29.

Some pointers:

Normal open surgery is actually better for this than keyhole; I researched this and the surgeon agreed.

Mesh will be used to theoretically make it stronger than before. Trouble is fiboblast and scar tissue are always a bit funny.

Do NOT overdo it in a hurry to get back on with life.

Watch your abdominal pressure! So if you are portly around the middle, loose it and keep it off. Bloating? Don't eat what bloates you i.e. wheat for many of us.

Core strength is good for keeping the strain off it. If you feel the wound straining, don't carry on thinking it's supposed to be repaired; back off and lift it another way.

Don't get constipated! Sluggish colon aint good for it; pre or post op.

Have you had GA surgery before?

Yeah I had the same when I was 27. Although it took 3 months to get into surgery, I was only in the hospital for 3 hours. Off work for 2 weeks although just caught up on paperwork as I was bored out my mind. 3 months later it was totally fine. Apart from the scar, I wouldn't even know it's there.

Same here. Last year. Although mine didnt strangulate. I just noticed a large lump appear in my groin so i never actually felt the pain.

Think I was climbing again soon as the scars had healed. Had keyhole surgery, in and out. Ached a bit after but all good now. Feel the odd twinge now and again but thats it.

All the best mate.
