Do all professional chainsaw users think joe public users are fools?

Hi, my first post:biggrin:, i think this is a very good forum for anyone interested in prosessing their own firewood, however it seems to me the pros out there automatically assume that joe public should never be allowed anywhere near a chainsaw.I myself have and still do use chainsaws without any training to cut firewood and i think i am quite safe doing so, i feel its a bit unfair to tar everyone with the same brush , before i had to finish work (on health grounds) i was in the plant hire game and had to have a fare amount of common sence did some very tricky jobs over the years just useing experence and common sence, would like to here your thorghts, ones again gr8 forum:thumbup:

Hi sean, welcome to the forum. I am not a pro user ( joiner by trade) but i use saws without any training aswell. I WILL go on a course when i have the time and money to do so, I use saws for my own firewood. However i have never been ' laughed at' or any thing else by anyone on this site. The guys on here are a good bunch that will help you with any quearies or questions that you may have. However the only thing i would say, is to make sure you know how to use the site (i'm still learning), and read other threads first to see if the information your after has already been answered. Oh, and get ready for the piss take (good humoured of course).

I assume every member of the public is an idiot unless I know otherwise, I have seen so many people do the stupidest things despite barriers, warning signs and verbal warnings. Until the foolish are made to wear bells then I'll continue to think like this.

Thanks for the welcome, i know they are a good bunch, been reading for a few months before posting, dont worry about me as regards the piss takeing i worked in the building/civil eng game for 25+years piss takeing was a way of life:001_tt2:

It's if you'd have said 'I do tree work for cash with a ladder and a chainsaw, 'professional' tree surgeons are a rip off.', That's when you'd get called an idiot

 

In all seriousness though, the fact that you've taken the time to join this forum and post shows that you have more respect for tree work and machinery than most.

Yes Joe public should not be allowed to use chainsaws without training..or buy them. Had a guy near me killed himself cutting a tree down in his garden last week, he bought the saw that day and had never used a saw before. Chainsaw are lethal in the wrong hands. Even just using them for logging..safety clothing must be worn, chainsaw boots & trousers. I will never ever use my saw without the safety gear on, ive had a few close ones with a saw, and my chainsaw trousers have saved me.
