which type of log splitter?

Either hava a go on one Steve or at least see some video of it working, Many of the machines I tried before getting mine were too slow, especially the ones with big tonnages, the higher the tonnage the wider the ram and therefore the more oil it takes to fill it and so the longer it takes. The engine driven ones were slower than the pto ones. I have a 16 tonner just now, it will split anything, i think the 20 ton + machines are designed for the continent where they split long billets. Go for 10 to 18 ton max and look for a fast one, I'll try to post a vid of mine when I get a chance just so you've got something to compare with.

Mine has a 2 stage pump, it does make a big difference. Have you goy one of those Ed?

I'm not sure but I think the 25T rating of mine might be imperial i.e 25K lbs

 

When comparing make sure you know if kgs or lbs.

 

Steve have you not got a trailer at all? I have two but would gladly have more. For selling logs you can take more each journey, for moving logs from a job you just roll 4footers straight in the back.

 

The quad goes on the sam etrailer that I use for the logsplitter, or the larger one which is mostly for the stump grinder. When on site the quad then pulls its own trailer and we use it to forward wood from back gardens etc (access permitting).

Ed that is the business! Mine is cheap and does what it says it will but I would like one of those!

 

It would be so easy to split poplar and leylanddii into chippable sizes. I know your gonna say get a bigger chipper!!
