I have been contacted by a client who wants a large area of brickwork painted with a stone ageing paint to encourage lichen and micro organism growth.

Its not something I have ever done before but I know the paints exist, I just cant find them!!

Any help in locating the paint would be greatly appreciated.

Yep seems Yoghurt and cow slurry are the two most common options.

Cow slurry reduces the Ph of the wall to make it more palatable for lichen, it of course provides nutrients and has a immediate darkening effect.

Spraying watered down Yoghurt onto the wall has a smiler effect but takes several weeks to form a darkened organic surface.

either way it will take several years for the lichen to start growing, maybe more if the conditions are not right
