I could be wrong but were'nt they introduced here in the 20's? if so I reckon around 85 - 90 years

 

Ginkgo was introduced here in to the uk, from China in the eighteenth century

90ft...are you sure? picture looks deceiving if so

 

From planting height to the top of the Cafe roof is at least 30 feet.

I know this as I errect the hanging baskets twice a year

 

My height barely reaches the start of the canopy.

And I'm no giant

well if thats right its chucked our theory out.

 

Hope you felled it to count the rings :001_tongue: and seeing as the oldest Gingko in Kew was grown in 1758, and planted at kew around 1762, it could be older than 1920's, so I'm going to say around the 120yr mark. Of course different soil conditions may vary the amount of year on year growth, wich could make it hard to gauge.

I think they were first introduced 200+ years ago. I think kew has one of the first.

 

there is a splendid example in Greenwich park - not sure when planted thought. I will get a pic next time I go there.

The ginkgo tree was introduced to europe in 1730 and came to england 28 years later.the ginkgo at kew is a male tree but some female twigs were grafted onto it obtained from montpellier in france and was planted in 1762 :001_cool:

If i remember rightly it started to die and had compaction work done and fed with good success i might be wrong on this but i do remember reading it somewhere:scared1:
