just been offered some chestnut 4-10 inch diameter, was cut just over 12 months ago, will it be dry enough to burn? the chap who is selling it as not got a moisture meter and its a little to far for me to just nip over and check myself.

how has he stored it? if its been coverd it will burn lovely but will just spit:001_smile:

Very doubtful. Cut open some yesterday that was left behind by biomass contractors last year (not enough for a whole lorry).It was as wet as if it had just been cut.

we let our sweet chestnut season for at least 2 years - but more often 3 - before we sell it for firewood - to burn easy

 

it will burn with less seasoning - but not so well - imho :sneaky2:
