Polarded Just shy of 50 pops last year and deliverd all of the timber which must have been about 50 tons 10 miles away free of charge, just to see the back of it. I got the same ammount to do when the weather sorts its self out and not sure if its worth stacking it in the yard and blowing it into chip for the power stations. Along with the other rubbish cord I ve got laying about and the chip from the smaller branches I should have about 80 tons Last I heard it was £35 a ton. But its not something I ve done before so Id have to ask for advice myself :confused1:

Asking for a mate, but what do you guys think is the best market for some good sized woodland Pop?

Its all very clean and straight, about 100 feet trees upto 4 feet DBH. Could be approx 100 tons to be extracted in a couple of months time.

Any great ideas?

Try this guy. he deals with quite a bit of the stuff.

Firewood would be my first thought but i'd imagin even with the demand for cord wood at this time of year people would be put off by 100tonne of poplar. Even if they did just mix it in with the rest.

I'd be inclined to either sell it as pulp or chip the lot for biomass. Less money but eaiser work and a guarnteed market. Although at 4'dbh they'd need some chipper and firewood processer.

Cheers for the help guys. I will be speaking to my mate on tuesday so will pass on the info.

The extraction is part of a mixed woodland where there is approx 3-400 tons total of mixed hardwood coming out. The pop seemed to be the stuff giving him concern.

All will be forwarded to roadside so chip/pulp should be possible for bulk transport.
