Sad to hear this mate,thats a hard loss. Sorry to spout this & it in no way reflects upon your misfortune, but..ANYONE using a chipper always use a very good quality motorcycle chain and lock at least,if you dont spend at least £150 on them then dont bother,it wont stop a gas axe,but it narrows it down.

 

I always had my chippers chained to the back of my Vans, be aware that this is not legal and if Mr Plod gets funny it s a nick.

Not legal to secure your trailer to the back of your truck? Where on earth does it say that. I thought it was illegal NOT to secure a trailer to the back of a vehicle :confused1:

It’s frowned upon because, assuming all is well with your set up, if the trailer becomes detached the break away cable will apply the trailer brakes and it will come to a controlled stop.

 

If you have a chain on all sorts of things go wrong. The brakes don’t come on and the trailer wags horrendously until you put the brakes on at which point it probably overtakes the towing vehicle and depending on how it pans out drags the back end of the towing vehicle round.

My tw125 has no brakes,but does have a safety cable,so the laws a mockery on that level too.

Hi Guys, Stolen From the Chelmsford Area last night/early houres of this morning. Feb 2000 Model, bought new by me, very low houres machine,very distinctive as very few yellow entec machines around now, On the rear it had several decals, which included " RIDE", " R-1 " .

 

Abs gutted, theiving scum, any info re this machine much appreciated. From what i have been told its possible that it could be in Ireland or Eastern Europe by now, but who knows.

 

Also heard today that a Timberwolf was stolen a fortnight ago from Chelmsford whilst the operatives were in the rear garden.

this hapened to us in aylesbury, all five aylesbury companies were hit, over 2 weeks we had 2 chippers pinched, a freiand had his pinched and another freand almost had his pinched, theiving scum,, its heart breaking to no you work hard to get the equipment you get and someone is willing to just take it from you

If the hitch fails even with a breakaway cable when chained to a truck the hitch nose digs into the road surface and depending on speed will flip the machine either in to on coming traffic or to the kerbs side.

 

This information was given to me by VOSA when the pulled us over for a roadside check, we were told to remove the chain before allowing us to leave. The only legal way to have it chained on is to put a chain on when you arrive on site, assuming it is to stay stationary

Re chippers coming adrift, guy that works for me had a timberwolf come adrift, ball hitch broke, Chipper ended up in a front garden, on top of a brick wall screwed up almost into a ball !! Several cars just missed it as it careered down the rd .

Another pal lost a chipper, it went up a garden path and demolished a porch !!
