I live in a conservation area and have to apply for work on a tree. Do i have to pay (£37 from streetwise maps) for the 1:500 and 1:2500 scaled ordnance survey maps my council are asking me for? Is it every time you act as an agent for your customers they always have to pay for the maps?

You don't need these maps, some people use a clear sketch plan others use a printout off of google earth and draw the outline of the tree on that. Both of which are free

As long as the plan is drawn with clear indication of the tree/s in question you should have no problem. If they can make heads nor tails of the map they will contact you.

I drew a sketch first of all, they then sent it back saying they need to be in scale, so i bought the ordnance survey maps online and sent it to them and i have just received it back again because i only highlighted in red the back garden where the tree is in and not my front garden!

 

So even though they asked for a scaled plan, i could have just printed off a google map? (which isn't to the scale they asked) ?

I am in Warwickshire if this makes any difference ( the scale is actually 1:1250 not 1:2500 as i stated before. The other map is 1:500 which is where i have drew the tree in question)

The local authority person is being an ass. There is no requirement for scaled plans. A decent sketch plan should suffice. I would ring them and have a chat to see if you can establish a common sense way forward.

As long as the map i clear, the trees are easily identifiable from the plan and an on site visit there is no reason for a scale map to be produced.

 

I;

1) list trees required for application T1 - oak, fell, dead

2) sketch a plan with clear showing of access points to the site and normally the closest main road.

3) place tree numbers on this map.

You don’t need to use a scaled drawing, the purpose of the plan is to assist the LA in identifying the trees, as long as the plan does this it can be hand drawn in crayon on the back of a fag packet.

 

Sounds to me like someone needs a bit of CPD. Get the name of the person who rejected the notification and ask to speak to their supervisor.

same thing i had any notification i sent in was rejected on basis of not being on an appoved map.

took up with planning officer and member of staff involved received a written warning in the end after 6 seperate notifications went in so if you get no joy speak to your planning officer

Forget paying for that! If you really want a scale map, register on the planning portal website for online applications. Find the maps you like to what ever scale..then picture-rip (screen grab) them and post off with your application.
