We've just renewed a few grounds maintenance contracts and we were told it would be an automatic renewal if we sucked up the 2.5% rise. Otherwise we'd have to tender. As a business decision I decided to accept the slight loss to myself to guarantee myself a certain amount of work.

Is the contract with a non vat registered organisation/group/person? If so then thats a fair request, and your decision, but if its for a vat registered then it should make no difference.

I'm thinking of putting my day rates up for the subby bits I do, but I've been considering that for a while,

Think i'm gonna have a kit buying binge before it goes up

Its not only VAT you should be looking at there is also general inflation on living costs. If you don't have a slight increase year on year then really we all work for a little less each year.
