The council can simple draw up a very tight specification for all contractors, which states all the requirements, H&S , waste control, etc, its not rocket science.

This will open the work to far more contractors, more competition, better prices, OUR money will go further, so more work can be done or maybe lower council tax!, no sorry I'm being silly now.

That's how it happens for all other trades, for example Decorators.

Someone comes out at regular intervals to check the work is being done correctly and to spec and payment isn't authorised until satisfied

Spot on! Dean.

Their is no more guarantee that an AAAC won't bend the rules, so they will need to be spot checked, re climbing groundie etc, as should all contractors, if it's in the spec.

Disgusting! makes me mad! now i've got the time, I/ we could get things moving with another trade org!

QUOTE]

Not knocking this Lee, but who is going to join yet another trade org? We have already said that there are too many already, fragmenting the industry. The AA is the largest and has possibly the most sway, the ISA is (globally) a far larger concern than the AA, yet is barely represented in this country. The RFS is out there somewhere, along with the FCA, why do not all these concerns get together and form a UNIFIED group to represent the entire tree business in this country, one voice that will be heard clearly. One voice representing all from arborists, to woodland, to forestry, right across the board. yes they would need separate committees for each target area, but it would be workable. There could be a Consultants section, a LP section, right across the board. The last thing we need is further fragmentation. Undoubtedly the AA may not be keen, the ISA may whimper, the CAS may just be heard, but this is what we need, combined power, and clear representation at all levels.
