OR a Kid nicked it and stashed it up there?

could well be mate! we got loads of USAF air bases from WW2 around here mr varity is prob only about 30 mins from me, some of the old boys who live around here have told me storry's ,we had bassingbourn wich had the b 17's even the infamous mephis bell i believe was based there!! they said to see them come home in the morning in a large group was amazing to see then a sad sight to see some come home by them selfs shot to peaces on three or two engines half there wings missing or huge holes through them limping back hours behind the others.... must of been pretty awful for the boys on board ,we had the one of the old usaf fighter escort stationed right out side my old house and they wrote there names on there way back from the pub on a big old beech that blew down a few years ago, many ghost's on that tree a lot did not come home!one of the reasons i never logged it! but in the respect of ordanance they dumped on german city's you dont know who was the a more worse evil!!

found a "king dick" adjustable spanner in a crotch about 5mtr up a lime tree in ambleside,an old green marble deep inside an old beech in ulverston and a metal tree guard inside a huge poplar in kendal.has any one else heard the tale about a sawmill in wales ripping a butt down and finding the remains of a flintlock rifle inside?
