Glad to se it all worked out ok, I still wouldn't trust that firefighter with the chainsaw though, would have to be one of you guys doing the cutting above my head like that!!!! :post:

Are there palm trees in the UK?

I know for fact there are about 20 at Logan gardens on the south west coast of Scotland, in total.....there is probably less than 100 in the whole of Scotland.

Here are the ones at Logan, I think they are Chinese.

Every second garden has one in, down here in south Cornwall, luckily they don't reach the hights of the continental palms.

I'm working in the Isles of Scilly in 2 weeks so I will almost certainly come across a few palms planted under the LV power lines...happy days.

Nah, not a pheonix the first pic - itsa Trachycarpus fortunei (chusan palm) from china! Hardy to about -11 celsius as is Chamaerops humilis from the Medd. it also will grow in UK climate. As will Pheonix canariensis from the canary islands and Washingtonia filifera from thedeserts of Southern California! All are common in the garden centre in UK, but only do well in milder parts of the country like western scotland, west of ireland and the SW.
