My Irish Setter got Aspergillosis in his nose as a puppy from playing on rotting woodchip. I had to pay £3500 for specialist Vet to repeatedly wash his nasal cavity's out with a special fungicide. They had to drill into his forehead, and pour the fungicide into his sinus cavaty's. saved his life though.

Years ago when I briefly worked for a LA in the yards shoveling dried woodchip, we were very aware of the dust spores. Old workmen didn't need lots of H&S lessons, they knew from experience and passed on the concerns. I haven't been involved in the industry for years, and would be interested if basic health concerns/precautions are passed on by people nowadays, or is it left to office training.

I think this links in with the thread about training from ARBOCOP as in the old days health issues like this were learnt in an apprenticeship.

On the woods departments H&S riskassessments it says contact with fugal spores LOW maybe i need to change it to at least medium. also i know a forester who died of lymes disease a tick bite and this is not even on there i asked for the risk assessment to be updated 4 years ago.
