If you are post 97 you can do a 7.5 tonner licence, or just go to the rigid, once you are at either of these you can do a trailer test for the 7.5 tonner. Bit of a faff

Vehicle wise you might want to consider a 5 tonner. They make a 50c17 which gives you a bit more towing capacity with the “umphh” you need to drag a bigger chipper. Remember that if you put a standard cargo trailer (3500kg ifor or similar) behind a 5 tonner (on a pre 97 licence) you will need to down rate the trailer by 50kg to stay legal. You can buy a new plate on ebay.

I would stay away from a double cab, they put the load area too far back and rear axle overloads are easy

You are of course in the territory of the dreaded “O” licence and tachograph but it’s no great shakes.

You could always blow off all this excessive and cumbersome legislation, you are a tree surgeon after all, call yourself an “urban forester” and register it all “AG” fill it with cherry and plead ignorance when you get caught.:sneaky2::sneaky2::sneaky2:

That's not a serious suggestion befor you all jump on me.
