Yes it is a pleasing shape Telhol not bad work.

Not to criticise, this is just my observations and personal opinion on how I do it, I could be wrong: I do not always look to evenly shape a tree, trees will grow irregular and I try to maintain that if i'm reducing, unless its a really over extended limb then I may reduce it back a little more than the other limbs to give balance.

Also when pruning to growth points I try to match the diameter if possible or no less than 1/3 the diameter of the limb I've removed. If you can do this throughout the tree then sometimes you can hardly tell the trees been reduced, because pruning points are so well hidden.

Its not possible to do this on all trees though. Oak, Beech and Horse chesnut are easy - Some Sycamores, Lime and populars are not so

Hey Marc cheers for your input.

I do agree with your way of pruning its the way i go about it but in this case i could only use growth shoots where possible.

I have to admit i two will give all the trees i prune equal shape its just a way i learned. Came across some odd shapes before.

Merry Christmas all

Yeah and don't forget, trees really shouldn't be reduced at all, everybody has a different view of tree reduction, here is a Ash tree I did today, the tree was in pretty poor condition, lots of dead branches, a cavity at the base of the tree and a large amount of swelling, also at the base.

The Ash on the left, a previous reduction, has to be re-reduced next week, oh, and it's local authority work for all the winges.
