off on a tangent,is it true(having never been to college)that it can harm a tree heavily choked in ivy to remove it?

 

It harms it if left on, on the trunk isn't too bad, once it starts working it's way along limbs then that's bad.

 

I came across some on the trunk of a young tree a few months back, I think I posted piccies where the trunk had deformed because of the ivy

I would have thought removing live ivy that is strangling the tree you may run the risk of damaging the bark and maybe cambium. I always try to remove a section - poss. about a metre all the way, wait till the ivy has died and then go back to pull it off. It usually just shatters.:001_cool:

you ever been to boise masterblaster? my sis lives there and keeps trying to drag me over,can't imagine much to do there? (apart from pick up a cheap 192t)

Boise is a cool little city. I visited Darin (Old Monkey) there, had a good time.
