Evening gents. Noob with a chainsaw here just looking for a bit of advise so I don't kill myself! OK, I'm not planning to do that but looking for some thoughts here. I've got a hung windblown tree:

Just wondering what the best way to get it down is. I was thinking of sending the wife walking up it till it falls down but she don't seem too keen to do that (woman!! :001_rolleyes:) so I was thinking of doing a notch cut on the top of it and then a back cut underneath. If it's still hung after that then I was going to put a rope around it and run that back to the car and pull it down. Will I kill myself?

Ta

picture hasnt worked for me, but going by your description of the job in hand and the techniques you are trying to describe, i would say leave the chainsaw alone and call someone that knows what they are doing.

to be honest, it looks that dead from the picture, the roots might be so shot it might be feasable to just stick it on a truck and pull it straight out without getting involved in any cutting.

personally i like the wife idea

you are already thinking about doing something stupid, if you pick up that chain saw you ARE doing something stupid,:sneaky2: and if you hurt yourself you will put my insurance:thumbdown: up so dont be selfish and stick up your post code and one of the lads or ladies on here that do this job professionally and carry certification and insurance will give you a free quote, you can watch and learn, if you think it looks like an awesome job then you can go down that route and get loads of help and advice from here:thumbup1:

Can't see the pic, but the fact that your asking suggests you don't have the required experience for the task.

IMO, it would be better to get some one in to at least get it on the floor.

ive got to echo steves advice with this one mate. dont take it as a knock back, even the simplest looking hung trees can throw all sorts of surprises at you (metaphorically and literaly).
