Dropping a top out of view.

This heavily leaning Oak (on the back side of this fine viaduct) has been the subject of much debate amongst the bosses for a while.

General consensus was to just remove it.

But it has ducks nesting in it everty year & a healthy poulation of nectar feeders on the Ivy.

So i've been reluctant to lose it.

Plus it has a great twisting stem.

 

We topped it about ten/twelve years back, to reduce the risk of it making a big splash, but having had a neighbouring lime fail next to it, the now isolated tree was making a few people twitch especially after the last episode

So today we had a play & found a compromise.

 

The final height is now low enough for the aesthetic police, & should it fail, it should be Ok in terms of target.

 

Due to the lean & Ivy, it made the attempt to attain a tip a little tricky.

But we came up with an elegant solution, & a fine execution was implemented.........

I'm slowly getting to like it, maybe in the next 25 years I may even begin to love it

 

 

It has it's high spots & it's low ones.

But for the most part, it is a great place to work only 3 miles from the heart of London.

This was a bit similar.. large leaning oak developed a big split through the centre at the base and was poised for removal or very heavy reduction, so to get it below the canopy of neighbouring trees and out of the wind. Decided to coronet as i had the opportunity. We left one stem as a stub so we can see how the tree reacts over time and which looks the best.
