Thanks all,

on top of the info you've all given me, I've also found some other useful stuff. This came from the government's business link website under Dual-purpose vehicles, showman's goods vehicles and other vehicles that don't need an operator's licence

"Vehicles with permanent 'fixed equipment' such as a winch or generator."

"Dual-purpose (road and off-road) vehicles. This includes all dual-purpose vehicles, such as Land Rovers, Range Rovers, Jeeps, 4x4s and their trailers - that are designed to go over rough ground as well as on roads, provided they do not weigh more than 2,040 kilograms when unladen."

Sounds like these might well apply to alot of us.

I run my Merc 814 7.5t curtainside as a dual purpose vehicle. I was told by VOSA that the vehicle had to have a tacho fitted but so long as all goods carried belonged to the farm then we were exempt from the operating hours and CPC rules.

Hi John, how do you run your merc 814 as a dual purpose vehicle?

Ah, but a 130 abulance probably is more than 2040kg

Very few Landrover 110's now have a kerb weight less than 2040kg, in fact I think that in the 2011 line-up they are all 2050kg or greater.

Permanently-fix equipment (eg hiab) counts towards kerb weight, and I very much doubt that a hiab-fitted LR of any kind would be under 2040kg.

We run as a tractor under part 1, 1. but to get a standard 814 truck classified as a tractor we have to have a tow bar fitted to run under part 1, 2. Dual purpose vehicle, then so long as we follow the rules in Part 2 for farms and woodland VOSA are happy.
