What are people's thoughts on Celox?

I carry it, (plus a field dressing) and make sure my buddies know how to apply it if required (I NEVER plan to need it lol)

Its worth making sure that anyone who could have to administer it knows what it is, where it is and how to use it! As there is not time to read the instructions if it is ever required!

I have some dont know if i would use it though ....had an ambulance job chainsaw injury a few months back with one of my guys and the thought was if the bleeding was contained why put it on as it makes a mess to clean up and could make putting the wound back together for the surgeons harder.... i suppose if you lost body parts it could be worth while but then again thats happened in the past and we didnt need it!and i suppose the same again goes for it being harder for surgeon to sew it back on with celox every where...

Thats a realy interesting point i hadn't thought of before...just assumed there would be some form of "Agent" surgeons would use to clean celox off? also raises the point are first aiders actually allowed to apply it to a casualty? :confused1: first aiders are not supposed to apply potions or lotions to the casualty, saying that if it would save someones life I would not hesitate to use it? can anyone cast any light on this???

cheers

Dave

Dave, there is a similar type product in use with the military (Chitosan dressings) they are only issued/used by trained personnel as you can do more harm than good if not used correctly. However I know alot of blokes who have aquired these and like you say they wouldn't hesitate to use them if required. Used on major trauma injuries only as the active ingredient Chitosan sticks pretty much instantly to any liquid present and they are only to be removed by Medical/Surgical teams.
