TBH knees are probably the least affected joint when climbing.

Hips, Backs, Elbows, Sholders, Wrists take far more of a beating IMO.

How many flights of stairs can you go up before it gives up?

Good climbers should not climb on there knees IMO!

:laugh1:

True.

I have done my knees in a few times not bad though due to twisting and straining on awkward positions.

Ditto above about the wrists, elbows and shoulders though!

Lots of discing down big stems on spikes is not good for knees, neither is footlocking. Both are generally avoidable, you should be able to make a career in arb and look after your body imo.

Hi Guys

Thanks very much for your replies, im even more persuaded to go for it now with full proper training,

ive spent to long in average paid temporary admin jobs stuck in an office not getting anywhere not to go for it, hail rain or shine.

Ive been looking at Merist or Otley 10 week courses and then ground worker jobs to start.

Cheers

Ground work is much physically harder than climbing, and most people new to the industry struggle to progress from groundie to climber.

Do you have any experience in tree work? If not, I would suggest you try to get a trial day with a local company, and see if you enjoy it.

I wrecked a knee in a road accident in 1992...Doctors reckoned I wouldn't bend it after 10 years.Arthritis. Been okay with it...one of the least affected joints . Look after yourself though. You will not gain the necessary strength overnight.
