My lad passed his test today so I phoned ins co for a quote to add him as a named driver on either the L200 or the Hilux. NFU say that he can't be a named driver and will have to be the main driver of one vehicle.

£1500 on top of what I pay for Hilux and no quote for L200. Ironically they can insure him as a temporary driver on either vehicle for £1 per day but it is only temporary and I need to phone each time I want him to drive.

Anyone found a cheaper way of doing this?

Welcome to the world of insurance for young drivers! It sucks.

They wanted £2200 for me to insure my landy, then i bought my vito and paid £1300. You just gotta bite the bullet if you want to do it im afraid.

When i started driving at 22 i couldn't get insurance to drive the work Hilux! Paid 1100 quid to insure my D22 Navara at 23. At 26 its still nearly 900 quid with NFU! In short young people cost a fortune to insure.
