That's a really nice picture of the Phaeolus. The few that I have come across never look like the text book images. What was it on? It looks like Beech in the piccy.

Janey, theres loads of phaeolus at burnham beeches, just check out the stand of Pinus sylvestris near the cafe at the right time of year youll see what your looking for.

Particular favourite is the Polyporus durus - Bay polypore, at the end.

 

Colleague stumbled across it in a marginal area whilst we were checking out access to get a fallen Willow out of one of the swimming ponds.

some nice hypholoma marginatums there fella, ive got a sneaky suspicion i know what that curly shroom is too, the white thing with spiny spore surface, when i find it in the book will shout!
