That's a really nice picture of the Phaeolus. The few that I have come across never look like the text book images. What was it on? It looks like Beech in the piccy.

 

Just been up for a look Janey and it was on a small off-cut of pine lying on the woodland floor :)

Janey, theres loads of phaeolus at burnham beeches, just check out the stand of Pinus sylvestris near the cafe at the right time of year youll see what your looking for.:thumbup1:

Glad someone can :confused1::biggrin:

 

 

 

Particular favourite is the Polyporus durus - Bay polypore, at the end.

 

Colleague stumbled across it in a marginal area whilst we were checking out access to get a fallen Willow out of one of the swimming ponds.
