I cannot fault any of the previous comments about mogs. A number of years ago I picked a ex-military U900 406 (baby mog!) cheap when my land rover packed in. The offroad capabilities, are awsome!

I have had no major problems - But let me be clear "THIS IS NOT MY WORKS VEHICLE". I do not have to rely on it.

You have to keep them well maintained and the parts are definately not cheap.

I agree with MIKE and ED, only buy one if you need one. If so, get the best one you can, and make sure you have the right spec you want, as it often costs more to afterfit hydraulics/PTO's/etc than if you had bought a vehicle with them on in the first place.

I would recommend Mogs of any size to anyone, but they are definately a specialist vehicle, and are only required in certain circumstances.

Work out realistically what you need, and make sure you buy the appropriate equipment.

I'd advise against towing a chipper that was designed for on road use with a very capable off road tractor unit.Reason is your truck will have much higher ground clearance and lower ground pressure due to four wider tyres.You may end up dragging the chipper's guts along as the wheels have sunk or banging engine or chassis on things the truck will straddle.If you are very disciplined with the unit off road or have a spotter walking the track in front of you it might work.But then there is the hassle of turning the unit around.So I'd say if your going to get a mog,get one with a PTo chipper,if your going to tow a chipper then get a regular truck.Mogs were designed to tow feild artillery or ammuniton limbers,these have the ground clearance of a Mog and are more robustly build that a chipper.

having looked at the link Matt gave from VOSA I think its a very complicated issue and maybe I should stick to my idea of a 130 Landy!

 

Maybe a Mog in the future! Still think they are a great bit of kit! Possibly a want not a need :bawling:

i have a full set of workshop manuals for a u900 i used to own

Totaly agree only get one if you need it

You need a big mog to carry and run big equipment

Some of the 50k tractors with a loader are becoming cheaper now

 

do you want to sell those manuals
