....Roots will not grow under houses as a general rule.

I agree but sometimes they do - they did in this case anyway.

The makers seemed to take the most extreme case though.

Was interesting to see the large root that directly pushed up and dislodged the pipe close to the house.

I know...Im just having a whinge! The point is that it takes a particular combination of factors to create the scenario that was the program. The fact I couldn't be arsed to sit through it makes me unqualified to comment really. However, trees were to be blamed for all their woes...not their rather dull approach to home ownership which seemed to have central to its philosophy, something along the lines of..." Oh, we just hoped it would be alright; it obviously isn't! "

Truly inspired...(not)

Has anyone had any calls yet in relation to the program?

In all fairness though the trees were destroying the property.

Generally then what is the approx depth that the majority of roots go down to?

I also thought that it was very rare to find them under the foundations.

No calls yet, but I think I might start marketing in Hull. Seriously though, I really don't like subsidence work, it's too depressing and the end result is almost always tree removal, or, a battle with a council followed by tree removal.

When I used to do a lot of subsidence reports the trial holes often revealed roots under foundations. I even had a few with trial holes inside the house, one showed 10cm roots at 2m depth under someone's living room :001_huh:.

Forgive my nievety on this but....

under the house would be bone dry, yes?

2m down the soil would contain little aerobic activity except in special circumstances, that probably would not occur under a house!

so, I am truly stunned by the claim of roots 2 m depth under a house for obvious reasons. Not doubting, just want some ideas on the special circumstances that generated the possibility for root expansion so deep and in such an inhospitable place.
