57 Plate Navara 4WD light on dashboard

Hi,

 

I have a 57 Plate Nissan Navara like Mr. Bullmans. and i have recently got a warning light constantly illuminated on the dashboard. The truck will not go into 4wd high, but will go into 4wd low. I have read threads on here before about 4wds and trucks so thought i would ask your opinions! What is the problem and is it expensive to fix?

 

The truck is under warrenty til november, but it is in Sweden at the minute and is gonna cost me bout £700 round trip to fetch it back to the uk for nissan to fix this problem for free. (plus loss of earnings whilst its sorted out!)

 

I am yet to check whether my warranty will cover it to be fixed in Sweden, but i am expecting they will give me the bull about Nissan UK being a different company to Nissan Sweden ect. ect. ect. and i suppose it will be easier and cheaper to just pay nissan over here to sort it out cos i want it sorted before the Swedish winter arrives for obvious reasons!

 

So, any ideas what the fault might be and what kinda price the bits are? Is this something i could fix myself, or am i right in thinking this is for the experts?

i just had the exact same thing on mine, it went back to the dealers to be repaired.....its the 4wd switches, they corrode, its a common fault apparently. i rarely use my 4wd so i dont know if this is a factor in their corroding or not.

Suppose yours was covered under warranty was it? Cannot be that pricey to sort out can it? Mind you, in Sweden where a pint is 7 quid, i'm not so sure!

Ok, cheers! At least i know what the problem is tho! I'm sure once i speak to Nissan they will know exactly what i am talking about if its a common fault! I better get on the blower to em!!

Mine stuck in 4WD High at two years old. It was, as stated, a switch in the top of the gearbox. Took Nissan half an hour to sort.

check your clutch at the same time,,, nevererer's are notorious for going through them,, especially if you tow...

We've just had to replace the clutch on ours. 55 plate done about 85000. Clutch was spinning away and you coukd hear it making a song and dance about it. Turns out they don't like a huge amount of towing!

 

£1600 for a new heavy duty solid clutch fitted. Where a normal road use was £1300
