Some neat work.

 

I wanted to have a play with the vid editor and knock this up.

radiata 75ft 22" DBH felled up a cow track. Taped hinge to offset the bias.

I'm sure Ben will be along at some point to give his reasons, but it's what I would of done.

 

I gut hinges out very regularly, especially for ease of pulling over.

 

In general, the center of the hinge controls very little or even no sideways strength to the hinge, so gutting it usually looses no control, only resistance on the pull.

Backed up with a wedge (Tree was right in a corner making hammering difficult...) and 3 guys on the pull rope, gutting the hinge makes for an easier pull. It wasn't massively back leaning.... but leaning back it was

Most awkward stem iv had too get a saw into too fell but was soft as owt with only a little sound cambium around the edge
