Thanks Silky, when I did the back cut it fell QUICK. Amazing how a root system of a tree can hold up such a heavy tree even in peat soil.

Most of them are so swept its pointless taking the buttresses off.

Because you can distinguish the pro because they make unnecessary cuts so it look better?

How is buttressing unessacery? A few seconds extra to do a tidy job? Also, lower stumps means better access for machinery. Increasing the appeal of a small scale approach and not create the need to use only large scale machinery as smaller stuff can't get in.
