In The Netherlands not unusual, as you can see in my photo of rather dark FB's of M. giganteus, because they had passed their freshness date.

 

Can't really make out from the shot but is that bleeding running down the middle of the trunk to the left hand side of the open wound.

If so, Armillaria also ?

 

(or just a contrast anomaly on the shot?)

There's no bleeding, because the photo is a digital copy of a slide, the quality is not that good.

Hope you don't mind me putting these on hear Dave as I found them to day next to the A227.

 

First two pics the same fruiting body.

30cm across and wobbled like a jelly

on oak

Lets see what the gurus say.

saw these about a month ago they were bright red then only got chance to photograph them to day
