i only knew it was a foxglove,because it had a name tag?[so did all the other trees in the garden]

 

if id thought about it then i could have lifted the (branch) collar to see if this one had a name tag!

so has my dad and it has lots of flower buds. grew its biggest leaves when it was very young. one of my favorite trees.

Ours was butchered by our neighbour whilst we were away. I think its more or less recovered now

I enjoy looking out for fox glove after reading into them seen a few about a book of mine says there leafs can grow up to 25cm would be verry impresive to see one in this contry sporting that kinde of folage

They are dead easy to grow from seed.

I've got one just outside my house which I cut to the ground each April. It then puts out a lots of buds and you select two to grow on. These grow 12-20 feet that year and have leaves much bigger than 25cm. Easy to grow and quite phenomenal growth. Coppicing though stops them producing flowers.

I've been lucky enough to work on two in my area a few times now, one in Rustington and one in Amberley.

When they flower they are brilliant. They live up to their name.

I was once at a National Trust site in Cornwall and my relatives were all going to look around a large NT house. I got out of the car and noticed in the distance a scattering of large blue/purple flowering trees towering above the canopies of other trees.

 

I had to investigate.

 

I managed to scramble up a banking to get to the trees and couldn't believe what I saw. The stunning flowers were falling off the tree like snow and it truly was an amazing sight.

There's at least one (and a good example, as well) at the Whitehall end of the Houses of Parliament.

 

I seem to remember that they can be a little frost tender though.
