Husqvarna for years with good results but got some Stihl red at a good price so tried that, cant part them they both work great. Never tried the Stihl green but may do if it was a good price but until then I will be using what I got and happy with that.

I always used chain oil from a local Husky/Stihl dealer and found it good with good chain & bar life, then found out when he had a delivery while I was there one day that it was plain old SAE30 oil in a 45L drum, he been selling the same stuff for 20 years so it must be working.

What do you use John??

Good point- Ill start using that!

Yup, Me too

I used to use Redline as per the link above but I'm not mad on the smell of it so reverted to Stihl HP mineral! :blushing: Typical innit - former engineer using basic oil! My 036 has run for 12 years on a mixture of Stihl HP and Oregon with no bother.

A word of caution - only use these high-end race oils in fully run-in engines! Using ultra slippery oils in new bores and on new skirts can either delay run-in or worse cause bore glazing. Use bog standard HP oil for a month then switch.

Buy from here: 2 stroke oil, 2 stroke engine oil

As I said, spent a while in the lube business and in the full synthetic world Redline products pretty much always won over the other brands, say 95% of the time. Few good products from Millers, Silkolene, AMS, Motul aswell mind!

We used to do a lot of fuel testing too but I'm not allowed to say which was consistently better - greenpeace wouldn't like it :sneaky2:

An oil thread!

I use the Sthil red stuff because:

- I can get it pretty much everywhere (no need to make decisions and worry about oil)

- It works. Haven't blown anything up, apart from stuff that was obviously my fault

- It isn't expensive

On the lifespan - in the US where there is loads of alcohol in the petrol, lifespan is a few weeks at best, it just absorbs water. Over here, much longer. Yes I drain stuff at the end of the year if I'm putting it away, but while I'm using machinery, I really don't worry about it.
