Stihl red shots.

Ive heard that leaving mix sit in a can for a period can have a negative effect on the machine? Is this true, and if so, whats the life expectancy of a 2 stroke mix roughly?

i was told not to leave any of the mixed cans in the sun or vehicles as the petrol evaporates and therefore the strength of the mix changes

Stihl all the way for everything if I can. Then if something ain't right there's only one place to go!

I've been told no more than a few weeks. If my saws are left half full for over a week I empty the fuel out.

You would have to have a lot of petrol evaporate before it caused a big problem.

I use a semi synthetic 2 stroke. Cant remember the name but it isnt stihl or husky.:laugh1:

Buy it in 25 litre drums and I think its less than half the price of stihl/husky stuff.

Never causes any problems and all saws run really well.(well had a 200t or 2 with fooked bores but thats another story)

They are all fairly good these days though and the engines in the saws we use arent exactly cutting edge technology. :001_smile:

Surely thats exactly what they are!

Very funny mate....(groaning lol)

Isnt the stihl red stuff fully synthetic. I was told that the stihl stuff is made of a suspension of microscopic ball bearings, which is what allowed the increases in mix ratio to 50:1. Clarification anyone??:001_smile:

New to me tbh, I will check out the oil I use tomorrow it could be fully synthetic but I do think it specifies a 50:1 mix, or rather it will go up to that.

Got to remember I doubt stihl and husky have an oil refinery so they will just buy it from someone who sells the same stuff under another label.

i just use the husqvarna stuff.

i have a load of fully synthetic left over from when i was kart racing, that stuff was £12 a litre but im not sure i can use it.

by the way we tested a load of different 2 stroke oils.

miller kartline came out top followed by silcolene pro2 and rock (all fully synthetics)

Did you try this? - 2 Stoke Racing Oil

No microscopic ball bearings. That chap with a PhD in engine tribology told you that was a load of tosh about ball bearings... Just higher film strength and lubricity based on an ester basestock. But exactly which ester basestock eh???! haha
