hi guys i have a karcher petrol engine cold washer model hd1040 b. someone used it today and i went to use it before leaving the yard and it is spraying intermittently.

engine is fine but the spray is coming out on, off, on, off, on, off with about 0.25 second intervals (although i wasnt timing though that is my most accurate stab in the dark). the water supply was on full, and there was no other water being used elsewhere at the time.

i cant find any info on the pump, but i would assume it is a two stage pump, and therefore the above description makes me think that one half of the pump is cream crackered. am i right? am i worrying over nothing and its probably just hot?

as i sit here writing this i am thinking that the hose is probably just kinked! but no, it shouldnt be because the lad who was on it earlier went home because he couldnt get the washer to work properly. he had been on it most of the day. i did notice a very low level of oil in the pump though, which is concerning me.

any help appreciated

cheers

Sounds like it could have an air lock, My Honda/Clarke one does this sometimes, and occasionally just plain wont spray.get all the air out of your hose and re attach and run it for a while it may sort itself out. if not have a look for some filters and stuff. you could eliminate your high pressure hose by disconnecting it and running the machine without see f te spray is consistent straight from the fitting.

Its usually caused by either air in the line, which running the tap presssure through with the trigger depressed and the machine switched off will usually sort out, or dirt in the nozzle, often caused by poking at the dirt with the lance....it should clear itself in time though.

yup,, if you stick your hand in the jet close to the nozzle it hurts like hell....:001_smile:

Didn't hurt me when I did that. Was holding a mower bag with my left hand, passed the jet close over my right hand by accident and spotted a red line a few seconds later :confused1:

Still have a 1.75" scar 2 years later :001_huh:
