Footlocking

Could never get on with a pantin, and cant footlock either so i just drop a loop, put one foot in it holding the loop up and stand.

Seems to work for me, dont know what its called though, Pete McGadget has seen me do it, could it be a half footlock?

I used to do that, you can also use a little rope grab instead of trying to hold the loop tight with your hands. You just keep pushing up the grab adjusting the loop to how you want it.

Only problem is for every two foot of rope through the loop you only move 1ft so you could call it half a footlock:wave:

Always use the Frog Technique myself passed on from old caving days.

Footlocking is a great method for advance but due to ergonomics and the amount of energy used in making an ascent it should be avoided.

I use a hand assender and pantin for both feet to be effective and a rope grab to advance as it does not lock up under load A tape from hand assender to belt will give an additional back up as fall protection.

I hear what your saying, and i'd like to try out some different srt techniques.

Still having only just got into footlocking i already see its huge benefits, its very quick and simple only requiring a simple knot or just a double ascendor.

And it seems to me it is a huge time and energy saver once your good at it. This week I managed to get 50ft footlock down to less than a minute, still a long way off comp standard, and whilst yes my heart rate is up my recovery time is quick and i'm ready for work.

As for ergonomics, this is something that concerned me as I have a bad back, working with Qtip though showed me that footlocking does'nt have to be ergonomically ineffcient, its all about technique.

Wouldnt use a double handed assender an a srt these are designed primarily for doubled rope techniquies. Not really caught on here yet really as a bit to fussy for us tree folk. One handed is great leaves the other to advance friction device.

Attaching yourself to the grcs and groundie on the handle can be a quick way up.
