Ask your father in law whether he has applied for the Agricultural Waste Exemptions the Legislation came into force in 2006 and he should have applied to the Environment Agency at that time. The ones relevant to yourself would be No 30 Burning Plant Tissue in the open. No 21 Chipping Shredding Cutting or Pulverising waste plant matter. No 17 Storing wastes intended for recycling or recovery in a secure place. If he did not have them and now wants to apply he may be asked some awkward questions especially if somebody has already been down gathering evidence.

I agree with Mesterh stop burning now until you can confirm all the bits of paper are in place. the penalties can be severe if you get it wrong.

You cant transport green waste and then burn it on another site.

You can burn green waste on site, but once you have moved it somewhere else its completely off the cards. Its a bit different to agriculture where your moving waste from one part of a farm to another.

Get on the Environment Agency website and check out the green waste regs, carrying, tranfering, and processing.

As an alternative, why not stockpile the stuff and once you have enough get one of the big biomass companies out to chip it for you and take it away. If you have enough and its the right quality they will do that for free.
