I did the IPAF course about a year and a half ago and trees were only mentioned when he asked what job I did. It was purely the regulations regarding its use and teaching safe setup and use practices.

 

Just had a quick look through the NPTC assessment schedule on their website and can't see any mention of trees either.

Hi I done the IPAF award a couple of months ago and they only mentioned trees a couple of times. All they seemed concerned about is the safe use of the equipment. IPAF is supposedly recognised worldwide as well so if you're on the move..... Easy course anyway. Mainly in the classroom doing H&S and then a short stint on the machine. Good luck whichever you choose.

Agreed both are probably internationally recognised and NPTC does last a lifetime, against five years for the IPAF, but a mate of mine wanted to chip off to the Antipodies and he was told that over there NPTC doesn't stand him in much stead whereas the IPAF would. Probably going to be proven wrong now........!
