A top handled saw

I cant buy one of these cos im not a qualified tree surgeon (im a geologist )

 

Just as a matter of interest, what ticket do you need, i.e. is there a cs for top handled saws?

 

Ive never had the need for one, but they look handy. How dangerous are they?

serious question, ive never used one btw, but obviously the kick back potential is increased? hwat else?

 

Also just wondering, whats the max bar length a top handled saw would generally run?

the saw not dangerous its the user, the max we use 14"

you will need to get cs30 which is maintenance of a saw. then cs31 which is felling a small tree and processing it.then cs38 which is competence in a tree and after that you can do cs39 which is chainsaw in a tree where you can use top handles saws

You will need cs39, but you cant get that without first doing cs30, 31, and 38.

 

You should be asked to show your qualification when buying a top handle, but i never have been. I do have cs39 though before anyone asks.

It's also bloody expensive 'handy tool' to have once courses and purchased saw had been done.

and if your not in a tree and on the ground using it you can get a £2000 fine i do belive
